new painting!!!!! finally i get to paint what i want instead of school assignments!!!! So if anything, this is a beginning of a new series entitled "lost Aztlan" it will a vivid interpretation of my views as a 1st generation Xikano being raised and still presently living in Los Angeles among the Lost disenfranchised youth. Then after being one of the few that was exposed to certain indigenous cultural aspects that was beyond the norm of a typical colonized "latino" would experience with in the city.

My other nephew Baby Leo!!!!! and Temo they both are characters!!!! they terrorize "kobe" the puppy....

AN ADDITION TO THE FAMILY

We just got a new DAWG his name is "kobe", yes like the basket ball player!!!! to be honest im not a fan of any sport really... However my nephew cuauhtemoc is fascinated with kobe bryant because he is around people that are mad fanatics, so i guess it works. Kobe is a "pomkey" it is a mix of a pomeranian and a british york terrier. my sister got him this dawg for him and the other baby so they can play because the other dogs we have are big alaskan huskey and a grey pit bull..

CLOUDS

I started to paint the ceiling of my Jefita's (mother) Salon. It is challenging because I never have painted in this awkward position. For example, as I was painting, the paint would run down the brush and drip all over me and the and the floor. I had to adjust the amount of water and use Matt medium so it had a thicker consistency. I started doing some research by taking a hike out at some near by mountains and lying down looking up at the clouds!!! I had my sketch book and did some drawings. I wanted the clouds to look uniform so I drew them converging at the center. For the sketches I used gouache on velum paper and spray paint to smooth it all out.

MY INTERNSHIP WITH THE D.C.A

I applied at the Otis college of art and design, internship fair and was accepted for the position at the DCA. It was an 8 week commitment 04/11/09 - 05/30/09, we meet once a week on Saturdays for two hours.
I enjoyed this experience working with the youth. I learned new techniques for instructing students. I found the experience useful because I plan to be in the field of education one day. I also learned more about the cameras functions and photography, like how to take more interesting shots by playing with the angles, lighting and position of objects. I was the teachers aid and had the opportunity to conducted one session by myself. We use digital cameras , mac computers and the adobe photoshop software.
-The theme of the class was creating cultural maps so we instructed student to take photos of there community and then with the content the students created a blogg. I was introduced to some very interesting people as well. I enjoy networking with like minded artist.
-I was inspired by the director Jesus "Chuy" Rangle is a very good Xicano artist, he is an Otis alumni. I occasionally would walk into a painting session of his "Loteria" series, check out his arte at
www.chuycs.com he has firme work. I also was able to work with Sandra de la loza which is known for her public installments "graffiti plaques" www.hijadela.com , check her arte out. Another artist that i was able to meet was Arturo Romo Santillano www. revumbio.com , check out his photo manipulations.

SUN VALLEY DIGITAL IMAGING WORKSHOP

These are some of the students that attended the 8 week course. The class meet on Saturdays 11am to 1pm at the Sun Valley youth art center. The class was taught by Sandra de la Loza a well known artist. It was a pleasure being an intern in her class room. I like that she is in to expressing cultural issues with in her arte, check some of her photography out at http://www.hijadela.com/
